Oh, hey! Ça va ? Happy 2026!
This is the introduction to one of my favorite stories in all my journeys so far. It is a story I have looked forward to sharing; one I told myself I would share whether my memoir got out or not (though releasing it first would provide context on my journey). I love how this story unfolded, and I am grateful I got to live it.
The title is pretty self-explanatory: this story is about how I went from being an international student on a student visa and study permit to a permanent resident of Canada. It happened sooner than I had initially planned, which to me is the best part of it, haha.
How it’s going to work
This is a long story (hehe), so I broke it up into three chapters of a mini book. And because I structured it as a mini book, the individual posts will not have an introduction. Instead, this post serves as a preamble to the entire story. There’s still a recap post at the end, like with all series on this blog, but chapters will look slightly different from posts you’ve seen so far.
I wrote this story in 2023, shortly after becoming a permanent resident. Two and a half years later, I became a Canadian citizen. Of course, I have a post about that too. 😉
Disclaimer
This story is a work of creative nonfiction, and events are portrayed to the best of my memory. While this story is true, names have been changed to protect the privacy of the people involved.
The Canadian immigration information provided in The Story is valid as of the time of writing; it is not complete and is for informational purposes only. It is not intended to serve as legal advice.
Okay, enough with the boring stuff. See you in the next post for Chapter 1? Can’t wait!
Câlins,
Danielle
